Shutting down, restarting, logging out

The power choices, sounds, and what happens to open apps

The power choices are at the bottom of the Aurora menu (the logo at the top left) as round buttons, and in the Control Center behind the power button:

Sleep
Suspends to memory. Open the lid or press a key to wake up; the screen is locked.
Restart
Closes every app and restarts the computer.
Shut Down
Closes every app and turns the computer off.
Log Out
Closes your apps and returns to the login screen.

Restart and Shut Down happen right away, after a short goodbye sound; save your work first. If an app is holding them off, Aurora tells you which and offers to go ahead anyway (see Apps that hold off sleep). Aurora plays a sound when you log in and when you shut down, restart or log out; turn it off in Settings → Sound → Startup and shutdown sounds.

The power button and the laptop lid do what Settings → Power says (suspend, shut down, nothing, or ask).
