Aurora Assistant
The floating chat: opening it, attachments, quick actions, models, collapsing
Open the Assistant from the dock, the ✦ in the top bar, or with Super+Shift+Space.
Where it sits
The Assistant floats like a picture-in-picture video: a card in the bottom-right corner, above your other windows and on every workspace. It sits just above the dock when the dock is under it, and right at the bottom of the screen when the dock is elsewhere, hidden or ends to its left. It never takes the keyboard from the app you're using unless you click it or open it with the shortcut.
- ↓ collapses it to a small bar, like a chat on a web page; a dot shows when a reply arrives.
- ⤢ makes it bigger for long answers.
- × closes it.
Chatting
- Type and press Enter. Answers stream in; Stop ends one, and you can regenerate it.
- Code blocks have a copy button; answers can be read aloud.
- New replies scroll into view unless you're reading earlier messages: then a highlighted arrow takes you to the latest.
- + starts a new chat, the clock icon opens earlier chats.
- The model is chosen from the title (for example On this computer).
Attachments
The paperclip opens a file chooser (the Assistant collapses while it's open); you can also drag files into the chat. Text, code, documents (PDF, office files) and photos are supported; photos are read with offline text recognition. Up to four attachments per message. Attachments only go to a model on your computer or your network.
Quick actions
Summarize, Improve Writing, Translate and Explain work on, in this order:
- the text you typed or pasted in the Assistant's box;
- otherwise, the attached files;
- otherwise, the text you last copied (or selected) in any app.
Translate translates into your language.
