Desktop icons

Files on the desktop: selecting, opening, arranging, dropping

The files and folders in your ~/Desktop folder appear on the wallpaper.

Select: click; draw a rectangle on empty space for several; Ctrl-click adds or removes one; click empty space to clear.
Open: double-click.
Move: drag an icon anywhere; positions are kept between sessions.
Drop: drag files from Files onto the desktop to copy them there.
New icons fill columns from the top left (or right, Settings → Desktop & Dock), folders first. App launchers (.desktop files) show their app's name and icon.

Right-click empty space: New File…, New Folder…, Open Terminal, Open Files, Edit Widgets…, Change Background…, Display Settings, Settings.
