Developer experience
What's preinstalled for developers, the terminal setup, containers and Dev Hub.
- Preinstalled: git (+ lfs, lazygit, delta), build-essential, gdb, cmake, shellcheck, Python with pip, venv and pipx, Node.js and npm, Docker (+ compose, buildx) with socket activation, Podman, distrobox, neovim, tmux and modern CLI tools (ripgrep, fd, fzf, bat, btop, jq, httpie, direnv, tldr), starship, zsh, JetBrains Mono and Fira Code, and portop.
- Why these and not more: they are what nearly every developer uses in their first hour. Anything heavier or more personal (IDEs, language toolchains, cloud CLIs, databases) goes through Dev Hub. It installs from the official source, so versions are always current and don't age with Debian's release, and it shows every command in a terminal.
- Containers two ways: Docker for compatibility with the ecosystem, and Podman plus distrobox for rootless containers and "any distro in a terminal" (like Fedora's Toolbox). Ptyxis integrates with both.
